Each semester LINK(ED) develops an initiative in order to go out and best serve its community. This spring LINK(ED) partnered with Wichita West High and created the School Supply Drive proposal. Goals were set and the plan was enacted.
Students at Wichita State were challenged to bring 500 notebooks, 500 highlighters, 100 tri-folds, and 1000 pens. Wichita West High School has over 1,400 students and Principal Joe Hudson had identified that there was a need for basic school supplies for a significant portion of its student body. Every student deserves the right to show up to school without having to worry about basic school supplies. Pens, highlighters, tri-folds, and notebooks are mere tools in which students use to navigate the educational educational experience. Through the help of the Wichita State student body, College of Education, and LINK(ED) we set out to meet our goal.
Students, faculty, and staff answered the bell. Over the duration of a three week period LINK(ED) saw individuals go above and beyond what was asked in order to ensure that
students at Wichita West High School do not go without basic school supplies. These basic tools will help kids learn to solve problems creatively, find new ways of expression, and become designers of their own world.
Each week the supplies rolled in without waver. Team one and two respectively held their own and the numbers matched the output. The next step in the process was to deliver the school supplies to Wichita West High School. Even the local media decided to cover the event. As LINK(ED) continues to expand, word is starting to spread concerning their initiatives and community impact. At the end of the day, the recognition comes second. The tone has been set. Each semester LINK(ED) strives to introduce new opportunities and initiatives
